The city water changes every spring
May to June
Naples city water is normally treated with chloramine. For a few weeks each year, around late May and June, the city switches to free chlorine to clean its pipes, and the water may taste, smell or look slightly different. The city says this is normal.
What helps
If the water from the refrigerator door tastes different in late May or June, check for the city’s notice first. If the taste stays after the switch, the water filter is the first suspect.

Why does water from our refrigerator taste of chlorine in early summer?
Check the calendar first. For a few weeks around late May and June the city replaces its usual chloramine with free chlorine to flush its pipes, and the taste of the tap water can shift with it. In 2025 the change lasted from May 27 to June 30. If the taste is still there in July, replace the refrigerator’s water filter, and if that changes nothing, call us about the refrigerator.
I rent a house in Golden Gate. Can I book the repair myself?
Yes, anyone living in the home can call. If the landlord or a property manager pays for repairs, give us their name and number as well, because the repair goes ahead only once the person paying agrees to it. Someone still has to be home to let the technician in.
Is Golden Gate the same place as Golden Gate Estates?
No. Golden Gate is the compact census place of about four square miles described on this page, with its houses, duplexes and condominiums close together. Golden Gate Estates is a separate and much larger area of lots of an acre and more. If you are not sure which one you live in, give us the street when you call.
