Map of Punta Gorda and the towns around it.

Punta Gorda is the county seat of Charlotte County and the one town on our list north of the Lee County line, on the south shore of Charlotte Harbor across the Peace River from Port Charlotte. Since the storms of 2024 some owners have raised their houses or rebuilt them on higher foundations. We repair refrigerators, washers, dryers, ovens and the rest in homes all over town, from the historic downtown to the canal streets of Punta Gorda Isles.

What sets Punta Gorda apart

Creek water, houses rebuilt higher after the storms, canals open to the harbor and homes that stand empty part of the year: each one changes how a repair visit goes here.

  • Water that starts in a creek

Punta Gorda’s tap water begins in Shell Creek Reservoir. Part of it now also goes through a reverse osmosis plant, so what fills your dishwasher, your washer and your ice maker is a blend of the two.

  • Homes rebuilt higher

Storms have hit Punta Gorda more than once. In 2024 Helene and Milton flooded parts of downtown and the streets along the harbor, and since then some owners have raised their houses or rebuilt them eight to ten feet above the ground, with the kitchen and the laundry up on the new level.

    What helps

Raising or rebuilding? Leave some room around the washer, the dryer and the refrigerator: a machine that can be pulled out a little is quicker to repair than one boxed in by cabinets.

  • Canals open to the harbor

Punta Gorda Isles was laid out from 1959 with 55 miles of canals, 100 feet wide and 17 feet deep, dredged to give home sites a way out to Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf. Many of those houses have a lanai or a dock by the water, and a refrigerator, ice maker or beverage cooler kept there takes in damp harbor air day and night. Its condenser fins and door hinges are the first parts to rust.

    What helps

Keep an outdoor unit out of direct spray, rinse salt off its door gasket with fresh water now and then, and call us when the hinges start to stiffen, before the door stops sealing.

  • Houses that stand empty part of the year

About one home in five in Punta Gorda is kept for seasonal or occasional use, so it stands empty for part of the year. A refrigerator switched off with its doors shut can grow mold inside, which is why manufacturers advise emptying it and propping the doors open, and an ice maker should be switched off whenever the water to it is shut.

    What helps

Back after months away and something will not run? When you book, tell us how long the house stood empty and whether the power and the water were off.

Questions people ask in Punta Gorda

Punta Gorda is in Charlotte County. Do you still come here?

Yes. Punta Gorda and the communities around it are on our Fort Myers area number, even though the town sits across the county line. Call before 11 AM and we aim to be there the same day.

Does the dry season change our tap water?

The source water does. In the dry months Shell Creek carries more dissolved solids, which the City’s older surface water plant struggled to treat. That is why the reverse osmosis plant was added beside it between 2018 and 2020, and why your tap water is now a blend from both.

Our kitchen went in after Charley. Is a twenty-year-old refrigerator worth fixing?

In most cases, yes. Age alone does not decide it: fans, sensors, valves, gaskets and control boards on an older refrigerator are everyday repairs. The technician finds the fault first and names the price before any work starts. The service call fee is waived when you go ahead with the repair.

Which number do I call from Punta Gorda?

We tell you the fee when you call. If you go ahead with the repair, the service call fee is waived.
